Robert Kubica scored the team its first pole position, and the first of his career as well, during qualifying for Sunday's Grand Prix of Bahrain.
Kubica completed 12 laps in the session and posted a lap time of 1:33.096 in the third round.
"I am very happy. I missed the chance to take pole position in Australia, but this time it worked out well. My first run in Q3 was quite good, but I made a small mistake in the first corner," Kubica said. "The second run was better, although I again made a small mistake in corner 9. We knew before the season that the car was good due to the results of the computer simulation and the wind tunnel work. Finally it has paid off that we never gave up working hard."
After two races so far this season, BMW sits second in the points, five behind McLaren Mercedes and eight ahead of last year's Constructor Champions Ferrari.
Just last race in Malaysia, Kubica brought the team its best result to date of second place. The race also saw the team score its best combined finish to date, with Kubica's teammate Nick Heidfeld finishing in sixth.
Heidfeld is currently tied for second in the point standings with Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen. He'll start sixth in Sunday's race.
Defending race winner Felipe Massa will start next to Kubica on the front row.
Despite damaging his car in an accident during Friday's practice, points leader Lewis Hamilton will start third.
"Yesterday’s accident was no problem for me, at Turn Five where it happened, I was faster today than Friday," Hamilton said. "It was just a matter of going for it. I know the guys worked until early this morning preparing the car after yesterday’s accident, so a big thank you to them."
Kimi Raikkonen and Heikki Kovalainen rounded out the top five.
The Grand Prix of Bahrain is slated for a 7 a.m. (ET) start live on SPEED.
