Roush Fenway Racing has been very successful at Michigan International Speedway over the years and looks to keep that streak alive with a victory in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Lifelock 400.
Team owner Jack Roush has enjoyed 10 trips to victory lane after Sprint Cup wins at MIS, the latest coming in last year's edition of the Lifelock 400 when Carl Edwards took the checkered flag.
The defending race winner will start fourth Sunday and looks forward to shooting for back-to-back wins.
"We won it last year and that was a huge win for me in my career," Edwards said. “This track takes everything. It takes a real great engine, a great aero package, a real smart crew chief and we’ve got all those things. Roush really puts a lot of focus on these types of tracks.”
Edwards' teammate Matt Kenseth has put together a stellar Sprint Cup resume at MIS which includes 17 starts, two wins, seven top-five and 11 top-10 finishes.
Kenseth’s average starting position at MIS is 21.3; however his average finish is 9.7. His average finish at Michigan is third best all-time among drivers with two or more starts there.
"I look forward to going to Michigan," Kenseth said. "That’s for sure one of my favorite tracks. It’s up in the Midwest and we’ve had good cars there in the past."
“The past few weeks my team has really made a lot of improvements and I feel like were getting better and better each week," Kenseth said. "Hopefully this weekend will be no different and we can continue making gains in the standings.”
Greg Biffle is another two-time Michigan Cup winner and also on a recent surge that has taken him up the point standings.
He'll start seventh Sunday and was the second fastest driver in Saturday's final practice session.
"Michigan has always been one of my favorite tracks on the circuit," Biffle said. "It’s fast and it allows for a lot of passing because it is so wide. We won back-to-back races there in 2004 and 2005 and I think we could see that success again with the way our program is going right now."
The other two drivers in the Roush Cup stable - David Ragan and Jamie McMurray - also found their way near the top of the practice charts giving the team a solid chance to extend its Cup success on Sunday.
