Greg Biffle topped the first day of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series testing at Lowe's Motor Speedway after turning a lap of 185.605 mph in his No. 16 Ford during the evening session.
Biffle, who has won the first two races in the Chase, also was second quick behind Dale Earnhardt Jr. (182.642) in the afternoon.
"I can't be happier with my race car right now," Biffle said. "We unloaded with the All Star and Coca-Cola 600 set-up and we figured that would be a great place to start since we finished second in both of those events. The car is super easy to drive and it has a lot of speed."
Scott Speed tested the No. 82 Toyota for the first time with the Cup Series regulars and was second quick with a lap of 184.881 mph.
"So far it's going all right," Speed said. "It's nice to be out there with a lot of the other guys, to kind of see where we range. It's nice to follow some guys to see how this thing handles behind other cars. It's a little bit different. So far, everything is going really well."
Eighteen driver eclipsed Earnhardt's afternoon mark in the night session with Carl Edwards (184.231), Bryan Clauson (184.068) and Elliott Sadler rounding out the top five.
Clauson is testing the No. 40 Dodge for Chip Ganassi Racing.
The Charlotte test marks the seventh and final NASCAR-sanctioned test in 2008.
Testing will continue tomorrow with two more sessions.
