Jeff Gordon jumped to the top of the speed charts in NASCAR Sprint Cup testing at Lowe's Motor Speedway after he posted a fast lap of 187.233 mph in Wednesday night's final session of the two-day test.

Gordon's lap bested Greg Biffle's Tuesday's top speed of 185.605 mph. In fact, the next five drivers: Scott Speed (186.638), Denny Hamlin (186.599), Juan Pablo Montoya (185.957), Elliott Sadler (185.790) and Carl Edwards (185.650) eclipsed the opening day mark.

Biffle, who also led today's afternoon session, was 11th fastest in the evening.

Fifty-Eight cars posted a time in the final session with Tony Raines the slowest at 177.819 mph.

Kasey Kahne, who has the chance to win all three season events at LMS, was 36th fastest in the evening at 181.984 mph in his No. 9B Dodge.

“We have a neat opportunity to try to win all three,” Kahne said. “We've won all the races here. Just haven't done it all in one year. So that's kind of a cool opportunity for our whole Budweiser Team.”

There were only two caution periods during the seven hours on track Wednesday. The first occurred in the afternoon session as Aric Almirola scraped the Turn 4 wall in the No. 8 Chevrolet. A second caution-flag unfurled for debris during the evening session.

The Charlotte test marked the seventh and final NASCAR-sanctioned test in 2008.
