For the eighth time this season rain has washed out NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying and Saturday night's Bank of America 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway will be lined up based on the point standings.
That puts five time Lowe's Motor Speedway Sprint Cup Series winner and current series point leader Jimmie Johnson on the pole for Saturday night's race.
Johnson knows starting upfront will be a hige advantage in his quest for a sixth win at the Charlotte track.
"Yes, it is," Johnson said. "The guys we are racing are right there with us, so it isn’t a huge advantage. But having the first pit stall is going to be helpful. We have seen some things happen here on pit road. It is advantage to be in that first pit stall here at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. We are excited about that."
Carl Edwards will start ouside the front row.
The remaining Chase contenders will make up rows two through six.
Four drivers will not make Saturday night's race: Bryan Clauson, Derrike Cope, Brad Keselowski and Scott Speed.
Saturday's Bank of America 500 will take the green flag at 7 p.m. ET.
