In 2002, David Stremme, made 20 American Speed Association starts with the Go Go Motorsports team, capturing two wins, 13 top-five, 15 top-ten finishes and Rookie of the Year honors.
Those results led to James Finch hiring Stremme to drive the No. 1 Yellow Transportation Dodge in 2003.
In his first season of Nationwide Series competition, Stremme recorded his first top-10 finish (seventh) in his Nationwide Series debut at Nashville Superspeedway in April, 2003. He followed that up with three top fives and six more top-10s en route to winning Rookie of the Year honors despite only driving 18 races.
In 2004, Stremme drove the No. 32 Trimspa Dodge for Todd Braun full time, scoring five top-fives and 14 top-10s on his way to finishing a career best 10th in the Nationwide Series championship.
The next season saw Stremme join his third different Nationwide Series team in as many seasons – heading over to FitzBradshaw Racing and the No. 14 Navy Dodge. While falling to 13th in the standings, his resume was impressive enough to earn him a ride with Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates – whom he drove for four times in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2005.
Starting in 2006, Stremme took over driving duties of the No. 40 Coors Light/Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon Dodge for CGRFS. In his rookie season, Stremme competed in 34 of 36 races, finishing the season in 33rd place. More importantly, Stremme showed constant development as a driver and stayed within his car within the top-35 in owner’s points for the 2007 season – meaning he has a guaranteed starting spot in at least the first five races of the campaign.
The 2007 season marked Stremme's best season driving in the Cup Series. Although he didn't gain any wins or poles, he did finish in the top-10 three times (10th - Texas, 8th - Talladega, 9th - Lowe's) and finished the season in 24th position, his best career Cup finish.
In 2008, Stremme moved back to the Nationwide Series where he partnered up with Rusty Wallace racing to run 32 of the 35 events. He has a solid year, capturing 16 top 10s and five top fives. That season he was also named the Cup Series test driver for Penske Racing.
Stremme's on track record in 2008, and relationship with Penske Racing ultimately led to him replacing Ryan Newman in the Alltel Dodge in the Cup Series in 2009.
