After a year on the sidelines, A.J. Foyt IV found a new home in 2007, joining Tony George's Vision Racing lineup. His addition gave the IndyCar Series founder a solid three-car lineup, with Foyt joining Ed Carpenter and Tomas Scheckter.
Foyt posted one top-five and five top-10 finishes in 2007 and finished 14th in the standings. He remained on the Vision Racing team for 2008 and finished 19th in final standings with four top 10s. Foyt is set to drive the No. 2 Lilly Diabetes car in 2009 with owner Tony George.
The 2006 season was one to forget for the grandson of four-time Indianapolis 500 winner A.J. Foyt. He landed a ride in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for Akins Motorsports, but was left stranded when his team switched engine manufacturers. Foyt had only one IndyCar start, as a replacement driver for Andretti Green Racing. He finished 16th in the season finale at Chicagoland Speedway.
The Hockley, Texas driver won the inaugural 2002 Indy Racing Pro Series championship, clinching the title in his home state by winning the BG Products 100 in September at Texas Motor Speedway. He returned to that speedway the following month and passed his IndyCar Series rookie test in his grandfather's car.
The first driver to climb from the development series to the IndyCar Series, Foyt made his debut in the Indy Racing League in 2003 for A.J. Foyt Racing. At 18, he was the youngest driver in series history.
