Robert Richardson began his NASCAR Truck career in 2005, where the 23-year-old finished 62nd racing only three of the 25 races.
His 2006 truck season ended with his 30th place finish, racing 20 of 25 events.
2007 marked Richardson's first year in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Racing 16 of 35 events that year, Richardson placed 46th in points standings, earning $324,160, at age 25. In 2008, he placed 45th in the series after racing 15 of 35 races.
