Third generation racer Marco Andretti made the leap to the IndyCar Series in 2006 after spending three seasons competing in various formula series.
He captured his first series win that season at Infineon Raceway on Aug. 27. Andretti became the youngest winner of a major open-wheel series race with the victory.
The season was also highlighted by a runner-up finish in the Indinapolis 500 and rookie-of-the-year honors. Andretti finished seventh in the point standings that year.
In 2005, he competed in six of 14 Indy Pro Series events but was still able to finish 10th in the championship standings. He won the pole and race at the streets of St. Petersburg (his first race in the series), Indianapolis (road course) and Infineon.
In 2007, he returned with his family's team Andretti Green Racing. He wasn't able to capitalize on his 2006 success though and only captured six top-10 finishes, all within the top five.
In 2008, Andretti scored a career high finish of second in the season opener at Homeasted-Miami Speedway. He tied his best championship finish of seventh in 2008, while also tying his career best top-five finishes of six. With his first career pole at The Milwaukee Mile on June 1, Andretti became the youngest driver to earn a pole (at 21 years, 79 days). He finished third in his third Indianapolis 500 start.
In 2009, Marco started off the season by finishing third overall in a two-day open test at Homestead-Miami Speedway the last week of February. He will again drive the No. 26 car for AGR in 2009.
