After starting his career in karts and racing in Formula 2000, Larry Foyt, racing legend A.J. Foyt's youngest son, switched to stock cars in 2000. He raced full-time in the ASA ACDelco Challenge Series and also made two starts in the ARCA RE/MAX Series.
Considering his lack of time in full-bodied stock cars, Larry Foyt did well to finish 22nd in his first season in the Busch Series in 2001, driving his family-owned No. 14 Harrah's Chevrolets.
Foyt ran 32 of 33 races, with a best start of fifth at Michigan and a best finish of 12th at Talladega Superspeedway. He led two races and had nine DNFs. The low point of his season came at Darlington in the fall, when he was involved in an accident under caution with Steve Park, who swerved in front of his car as he was hustling to double-up for a restart.
In 2002, Foyt finished 20th in the Busch Series standings, with two top-10 finishes in 33 starts. His best finish was an eighth-place effort at Talladega in April. It was also the last top-10 finish Foyt would garner all season. Foyt averaged a 23rd-place start and a 25th-place finish in 2002.
