History
Prior to testing by NASCAR Cup Series drivers, no one ever really thought stock cars would run on the hallowed racing surface of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Brickyard.

While world-famous for one of open wheel racing's most prestigious events, The Indianapolis 500, it didn't take long for Indianapolis to become world famous for another event, The Brickyard 400. In 1994, stock cars competed on the legendary circuit for the first time.

The fanfare leading up to the event includes the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Grand National Division and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series providing support races, along with USAC Silver Crown Series drivers, at O'Reilly Raceway Park.

When raceday arrives, and the command to start engines is given, it's not the whine of turbo-chargers that's heard but the ground-shaking roar of 43 V-8 powerplants roaring in unison. A sound some thought would never echo through the stands of the Brickyard.
